Stampin' Up! Berry Basket & other info in the news

So if you have heard the news lately you might have caught the news that there are labor strikes going on at the ports along the west coast. As these strikes have yet to be resolved and are affecting the arrival of products from overseas, Stampin' Up! has cautioned us that there may come a time where we are unable to receive materials from some of our manufacturing partners in other countries. The products most likely to be effected are tools - our Big Shot framelits, embossing folders, etc. (
See the much longer explanation at the foot of this post.)

Why am I sharing this with you? The main reason is so that you will know what to expect when you when you want to place an order. For example, our new Berry Basket Bigz die is an item that has been on my wish list since I first reviewed our Occcasions 2015 Catalog. I have a number of gifts I want to make using this die this spring, so I went ahead and ordered it just in case there are issues later.

Before we get to the nitty gritty of inventory stories, how about a break? Check out the Berry Basket and how easy it comes together. Psst! You can see videos regarding other Stampin' Up! products on the Stampin' Up! YouTube channel.

West Coast Port Labor Negotiations
Nearly 40 percent of all US imports pass through ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. As ongoing contract negotiations continue between the ILWU and PMA, a record number of containers are arriving at the ports due to new “jumbo” freight vessels. In addition to these record numbers, there is also a shortage of equipment used to actually deliver the containers. You can follow news about the ports and the labor negotiations here. Unfortunately, there is no end in sight for the negotiations or the congestion at the west coast ports.

Like almost everyone else who imports through these ports, we are looking for alternate routes to bring in our products and distribute them to you and your customers.

Because of the congestion at the west coast port, more companies—us included—are using air freight from China to bypass the congested ports, which, ironically, is now causing congestion with imported air freight.

Chinese New Year
During Chinese New Year (Feb 15 - March 9)—a very important holiday to the Chinese people—our Chinese manufacturers shut down and none of those products will be shipped to the US during this time.

Unfortunately, these factors have combined to create the “perfect storm” of backorders and, sadly, we foresee the situation getting worse before it gets better.

The Temporary Solution
Because backorders cause so much consternation and are very costly, we have decided that until we see improvements in the factors causing backorders, we will turn off accessories that become unavailable, rather than allowing them to go on backorder. Please note: because stamps are manufactured locally, stamp sets will be allowed to go on backorder status as needed.

If you currently have an item on backorder, we will fill your order as soon as we have the item in stock. Occasionally the product shipments we receive will not cover all backorders; in these instances, the remaining backorders will have to wait until subsequent shipments are received.

**I will continue updating you on the shipping and manufacturing situation weekly—even if there is nothing new to report—so you’ll know as soon as I do when the situation changes. We apologize for the frustration the backorders may cause, but we hope this information has helped you understand some of the circumstances that are affecting how quickly we can replenish our inventory.**

National Puppy Day Treat Bag Topper

Did you know that March 23rd is National Puppy Day? How fun! There are so many random "holidays" out there; I wasn't aware of this one until the Creative Crew at Splitcoaststampers was challenged to create a project based on a February holiday. Valentines came to mind immediately, of course, but how about showing some love for our furry friends?

Treat Bag Topper:

  • This sweet bag topper was created using a 4" square piece of Coastal Cabana card stock. Score at 2" and fold down, then top the front with 1/2 of a Tea Lace Paper Doily.
  • The cute little flower image on the doily is one of the images in Simply Wonderful, one of our Sale-a-bration offerings. If you enjoy coloring, don't forget Stampin' Up! is currently offering Coastal Cabana Blendabilities as a Sale-a-bration offering, as well. These items are not available through our current Annual Catalog; so if you want them, don't forget to get them before March 31st!
  • The poodle is part of an image in In This Together. I selectively removed her from the rest of the image using a circle punch and dressed her up a bit with a scalloped circle backing. It's a bit difficult to see in this photo, but her collar is decked out with a mini pearl and others are scattered on the doily. This is one frilly, pampered pooch!
Well - I've had my escape for the day... now it's time to go clean up, thanks to my real-life pampered pooches and their tendency to shed. I hope you enjoyed today's project!

February 2015 My Paper Pumpkin

Look at what came in the mail today! I can't figure out if I should make it now or save it as a template 😳

Edited to add: there are enough supplies for 8!! Scroll down to see the scrumptious felt letters...

Painted Petals Quick Card

Now here's a speedy card! This one would be perfect for making a stack and gifting it to someone. Enjoy!

Project Notes:

  • The color combination was chosen using one of the combos provided on the Mossy Meadow page of the Color Coach. There are a lot of ways to get color inspiration: websites, our Designer Series Paper, clothing, you name it. But I love the convenience of this handy tool. I should keep an extra one in my closet to help me get dressed! :)
  • The Painted Petals stamp set is available in Wood Mount, Clear Mount and Photopolymer. Although I love the feel of Wood Mount stamps, I went with the photopolymer on this one so that I could easily do the two-step stamping required for this set. I have to admit, it makes it easier to stamp the sentiment, too. To see all of the images included in this set, simply click on it's image in the supply list below.
  • If this is too much white for you, consider making the top layer smaller and adhering it to a card base in one of the stamped colors. If you are making a set of these, it would look nice to add a variety of colored bases.

Easy Masked Birthday card

A smudge of ink led to today's clean and simple card. I didn't want to waste the card front, so instead I added some more smudges (a la sponging) and some simple stamping to create this fun birthday card. I'm saving this one for one of my boys :)

Project Notes:
  • To create the design across the bottom, cut a mask out of printer paper and lay across your card front. Add ink in a swirling motion onto the uncovered portion. Leave it light so that the sentiments you add next will show.
  • Tip*: Start your inking on your mask and move onto the uncovered card stock. This will help keep the color distribution even and also keep you from pushing your mask up and out of the way.
  • Next add image or sentiments (these are from Cheerful Critters) before removing the mask. Photopolymer stamps make this step super easy since you can see exactly where you are stamping.
  • To finish off your card, stamp a bold sentiment or add a die cut to convey your greeting. Or both :)

Mosaic Madness Thank You

If you caught my post earlier this week, I'm making this week about clean and simple cards. As much as I love cards with layers and lots of details, sometimes a girl just wants to sit down and create with simple ingredients. Believe it or not, it's not necessary to own a roomful of products to create nice cards. (Or so I tell myself every time a new catalog is released...)

Project Notes:
  • This color combination is based on a challenge at Splitcoaststampers. You can see the ink colors listed below in the supply list. (Clicking on an item will take you directly to my store where you can get additional information on the product and shop if you are ready to purchase.)
  • I started with the four Crushed Curry mosaic images and then worked my way around the card filling in with other images and colors.
  • Embellishments were kept to a minimum since the pattern was already bright and somewhat busy. Just a few Mini Silver Brads and a length of 1/8" Silver Taffeta add some glam to the design.
