How to make a matchbook card

In class today, we are working on a fun-fold style card - a Matchbook card. Although there are several patterns on-line and in different forums, our card was based on notes provided by Studio Calico. The finished size is about 4-1/2" x 3-1/4". It's a cute size for sending a greeting to someone in a standard envelope, but the inside pocket holds a gift card perfectly, too!

Check out the inside:

To create the matchbook card:

Matchbook cover:

  • Begin with a piece of card stock measuring 3 1/4" x 8-7/8"
  • Score at 3/4", 4-3/4" and 5"
  • Fold along score lines and press with a bone folder to secure

Inside pocket:

  • Begin with card stock or Designer Series Paper measuring 4" x 5-3/4"
  • Score at 1-1/2"and 4-1/4"
  • Fold and secure where the edges overlap
  • Using a circle punch, punch half of the circle along the top to make it easier to remove the note insert/gift card.
  • Place in the cover and staple along the bottom (close to the crease) to secure.
  • Optional: adhere a strip of card stock or patterned paper over the bottom strip of the matchbook case to cover the staples. (In the sample, I used a strip of Cherry Cobbler card stock.)

If you are in the Melbourne (Florida) area and would like information about upcoming Friday morning classes, contact me via e-mail. All invites go out via e-mail on the Monday prior to class. I am also scheduling workshops for May and June where hostesses can take advantage of retiring items promotions and the new catalog release. It's a great time to host!
