Stampin' Addicts Sale-a-Bration Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stampin' Addicts Blog Hop

If you are just arriving from Lisa's blog - weren't her ideas for that little cup amazing? I can't wait to CASE the soup gift!  If you're just starting out, you'll be happy to know that we have 21 stops full of inspiration for you today.  We are all linked together so that you can hop from site to site and check out a variety of projects to make with your Sale-a-Bration freebies! (And yes, you'll make your way back around to Lisa so you can see her ideas.) The posts will be up through Sunday so that you have plenty of time to look. You'll find the link for your next stop, Krystal's amazing blog, linked below.

My Sale-a-Bration choice for today's Hop is Always Elegant. It is one of the 69 Idea Book and Catalog stamp sets that you can choose as your FREE stamp set during this promotion.

My first card is based on one seen recently in Paper Crafts magazine. Aside from the stamps, it also  features two of my favorite embellishments - Glimmer Paper and Jewels!
This card was so simple to put together, but the look is anything but "simple".  The scroll-work image was stamped repeatedly onto the card base and a raised layer. I love how VersaMark lets the image show, but not so much that it competes with the other elements of the card. And, of course, this ink does double duty for this card since it was also used to heat emboss the chipboard letters.

Ink: VersaMark (102283)
Paper: Basic Gray (121044) and Glimmer Paper (121790)
Embellishments: Black Embossing Powder (109133), Jewels Basic Rhinestone (119246) and Pearls (119247), Chipboard Letters
Tools: Heat Tool (100005), Powder Pals (102197)
On card #2, I used the scroll-work again on the Whisper White label/frame along with the small flower and sentiment from this same stamp set.  The front panel of the card is cut slimmer than the back so that the gray strip (with the flowers and pearls) will always show. These bold colors give the card a fresh, modern feminine feel.

Ink: Basic Gray (109120)
Paper: Melon Mambo (12x12 textured pack - 119930), Whisper White (100730), Old Olive (100702)
Embellishments: Jewels Basic Pearls (119247) What can I say, I love them! *blush*
Tools: Big Shot (113429), Lots of Tags sizzlits (114508), Little Leaves sizzlit (114511), Oval punches (119863 and 119855), Itty Bitty Punch Pack (118309)

This adorable little purse was die cut in both card stock and Designer Series Paper. Layering the two ensures that the finished bag will be sturdy. The crowning touch is our Simply Adorned 5/8" Circle Charm; the insert was stamped with the little flower from the featured stamp set and topped with a tiny Pearl. It hangs from the handle on a combination of ribbon scraps. As you can see from the insert picture, the inside holds a few little pages for adding notes or perhaps attaching gift cards. I believe this will make a very sweet gift for someone special!

Ink: Basic Gray (109120), Melon Mambo (115656)
Paper: Very Vanilla (101650), Melon Mambo (115320), Love Letter Designer Series Paper (117162)
Embellishments: Jewels Basic Pearls (119247), 5/8" Simply Adorned Circle Charm (117349), scraps of Springtime Vintage Fabric (121817), Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta (119261),  Chantilly Crochet Trim (118480)

I hope that you enjoyed my projects today and were inspired to use the Always Elegant stamp set. Next we are off to Krystal's Blog where she will be WOWing us with projects using the Wellness Wishes stamp set (also from our main catalog). Lets go!

This Diva Sketch is Clearly for You!

We've made it back around to another Saturday and another chance to play with a sketch from the Utah Divas! I'm looking forward to seeing what the others in the group have to share and I hope you'll take a few minutes to check them out, too. To see their posts, follow the link below or visit the Utah Divas Blog for a complete list of participants.

Our Occasions Mini Catalog introduces a new embellishment offering, Beveled Windowpanes. These acrylic frames make it easy to highlight a specific portion of your creation. You receive 12 windows, 4 each of 3 different sizes in your packet.  I've used the largest (1-1/2"x2") here.
 Isn't that neat?
To anchor the frame in place, simply slide some ribbon (up to 1/2" wide) through the slots on each of the long sides and adhere the ribbon to your project. I went for a vintage style here, but the slides look great over bold images, too! And, just so you know - the slides were sized to coordinate with images from the Clearly for You stamp set but can be used with any of your favorites, as well.

Now let's jump the planet and take a look at what Alisa has in store for us today. Thanks for stopping by! And if you need an Occasions Mini Catalog and are in the U.S., contact me (provide your mailing address) and I'll be sure to get one out to you right away.

How to use the Blossom Petals Punch

One of the new punches in our Occasions Mini catalog is the Blossom Petals Punch. If you just want to punch out one shape, it's easy enough to insert a strip of paper and just punch out the one you need. But what if you want to use it with the coordinating stamp set, Build a Blossom?

Well, then - you're going to love this a tip shared recently at our Leadership Seminar.
Here's what you'll need:
Build-a-Blossom Stamp Set (W121923, C121994)
Window Sheet (114323 or 4) or Card Stock Vellum (101856) as shown here
Build-a-blossom punch (121808)
Ink for your stamps
Begin by punching your Window Sheet/Vellum with the punch.
Here I used the punch with the label on top so I'll need to flip my sheet over for step 2.
(Notice that the large flower petal is on the left here, on the right below...)

Now use the punched shapes as a guide for stamping.
Use a stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement.

Once your images are all stamped, you can then place your stamped card stock into the punch.
As you can see, when we are trying to line up and punch specific areas, we turn the punch over. This is why I flipped the vellum over before stamping through it.

Ok, this first attempt was messy (see my smudges of ink?), so I did not create anything with it. But I couldn't wait to show you the time, frustration and supply saving technique so I hope you'll forgive me!

Thanks for stopping by!

Creative Sketches Use a punch

Today's challenge at Creative-Sketches is to use a punch. So many choices... I wonder which ones the ladies will use and just how they will use them. To see what they've come up with, be sure to visit the site linked above. If you have been inspired to play along, link to your project using the link feature on the site or in a comment here. I'd love to stop by and see what you've done!

As the newest addition to my stash, I chose to use the new Blossom Petals XL Punch from the Occasions Mini Catalog. For this card, I created a flower using the two smallest leaf shapes on the punch.

Project Notes:
  • I combined three coordinating colors Brights collection to create this flower. (Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo and Regal Rose) Other options could include using one color or patterned Designer Series Paper.
  • Textured card stock adds weight and texture to the flower, both visual and tactile.
  • To create the scooped shape of each petal, I lightly rubbed each one against the side of a thin paintbrush. Our card stock is such a nice weight that I didn't have any issues with tearing.
  • To finish, a few Basic Pearl Jewels adorn the center of the flower. The jewels come separately on a sheet so it was easy to mix and match as well as pull off just the ones I wanted to use. Not only are they pretty, they cover where the punched shapes meet in the center. FYI: The sheet also comes with three lines of small pearls; you see a portion of one along the upper left corner of the center panel.
Thank you for stopping by! For a tip on how to use this punch along with its coordinating stamp set (Build a Blossom), be sure to stop by tomorrow. You're going to love this idea!

Stylish Blogger Award - Thank You Martha!

Yipee! I have been given the Stylish Blogger Award by Martha Stewart, at Seasons Of Stamping.  Thank You, Martha! It's such an honor :)

One of the stipulations is to share 8 things about myself and then pass it on to 8 others. So here goes:

1. When I was little, I always wanted to be a teacher. I feel like I'm living that dream as a Stampin' Up! rep.
2. I love to people watch.
3. I learned to speak Spanish first, English second and am attempting to learn some French through podcast lessons.
4. I'm considering sabotaging the coffee my husband makes in the morning. He makes it so strong that I'm afraid I'm going to grow hair on my chest. Seriously, honey...
5. I watch a Spanish soap-opera in the afternoon. It's my secret to not eating out during the day and makes me rush home from errands! An easy way to save money ;)
6. I'm a new Christian am still awed that God would want a relationship with me. I don't know if I'll ever grasp that...
7. My new favorite chicken recipe.
8. I used to love to bake. Haven't done much in the last few years, but this site is encouraging me to get back in the kitchen more.

Ok, I was all set to send this award to the blogs that I read frequently. A problem arose when most (if not all) had already received this award. So instead of doing that, let me share a few non-stamping blogs that I enjoy and think you might, too.

Use It Tuesday - Butterflies

Welcome to my kitchen. This "happiness" area used to house a coffee bar, but has now been relegated to homework central! I've left this Decor Element on the wall so that we can try to keep a good attitude as homework has begun to get challenging; but, what I really want to draw to your attention is alllll the way to the left - the butterfly box! Here's a fun way to use your Designer Series Paper.

Scraps and small portions of the Regals Stack are layered here on our Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die. Just two passes through and I was able to cut out a butterfly in every color of this color family.

Here they are on the board (inside the box frame). I used the pins to imitate the little antennae on each butterfly along with few Pearls and Rhinestones for embellishment. Getting a picture of the finished box through glass, is very interesting... but here's an attempt so that you can see the finished product.

What do you think? Are you ready to use up some of your paper stash?

Diva Sketch #118 Love Impressions

Happy Saturday! It's card sketch time!

If you are new to my blog, you'll be happy to know that you can see more projects based on this sketch by visiting the Utah Divas blog or by following the link below. The participating Divas are all linked together so you should be able to bump through by following the links embedded in each of our posts.  If you just landed here from Carol's blog - welcome! Be sure to go back and thank Carol for putting our sketches together ;)

Love is in the air!

Stampin' Up! shared some love with Demonstrators by sending us a sheet of Love Impressions rub-ons. Featured in the newly released Occasions Mini catalog, the heart balloon and clouds are just 2 of the designs included in the package. They are so easy to use and adhere so smoothly that they look almost as if they were printed onto the card stock. I've tried other brands before and would often end up with a dent in my paper from having to work so hard to get the images to adhere. Not with these - promise!

You'll be happy to know that when you order these rub-ons, you will receive 4 (6x6) sheets of rub-ons. You'll get a mixture of light and dark images and sentiments so that you can use them on different colors of card stock. (The ones that look gray below will show white once adhered to card stock.) They really are a great addition to love projects!

Thanks for stopping by! Now, let's go check out what Alisa has in store for us. Maybe some of her beautifully colored images? Check it out...

Creative Color Challenge

We've got a fun color challenge for you today! To join in the fun, be sure to visit the Creative-Sketches blog. You'll get to see a few more project ideas and if you would like to play along, there's a place where you can link to your project and share your goodies with us. Just your crafty goodies... ;)

So how about these classic colors, hmmmm? Black, White and Silver. These colors just define elegance, don't they? For me, the silver called for me to bring out the embossing powder. And once I did, I ran across an all-too-common boo-boo. So how about I show you an easy way to fix it:

Sometimes when we emboss, we can miss a little section of the image. In this case, two points of the Medallion were not inked as well as I thought so there wasn't enough ink to hold the embossing powder.

After embossing, I used a VersaMarker to dab some ink into the neglected spots and then poured on more embossing powder. In this picture you can see one end of the marker; the other end is a brush tip and can be used much like you would use one of our Stampin' Write markers. Easy to use, does the trick and I can keep going with the rest of my project. Yay!

And here we go. A lovely black, white and silver creation destined for my hubby. I think I'll stick in his work bag and surprise him.

Thanks for stopping by!

My Digital DJs

Ever purchase a gift for your kids and know that the adults want to play it just as much as they do?
Well, it happened this year with DJ Hero 2 and I have photographic evidence:
Yup - my BOYZ are keeping the house jumpin' wit da beat.... lol

Now onto the crafty details
  • This fun page was created using My Digital Studio.
  • The layout is one from one of my favorite sources - Becky Fleck at Pagemaps.
If you are new to My Digital Studio and wondering if it was a pain to create the color blocks, it was NOT. Here's a quick look:

On the right side of the MDS screen, click PUNCHES
From the pop-up menu, click 1.25 Square Punch.

It will automatically insert the square onto your project. If you would like to resize, go ahead and do it before moving on to the next step.

From the same PUNCHES tab,
click to fill with either Color (card stock) or
Paper (Designer Series Paper)

As you see, you can also click Match Color. This option will allow you to choose a color on your project instead. The top right block was filled this way and matches my hubby's shirt.

See easy-peasy. You could probably even do it while dancing along with the music the DJs are spinning!

Thank you for stopping by today - I appreciate the visit! Need supplies? Shop Stampin' Up! Online
