Video: how to create an fun-fold card

2.27.2016

I recently received a request from Mary asking how to create an accordion fold card I shared a while back. Since I couldn't find my notes, I decided to recreate the card and - this time - film a short video showing you just how easy it is.

First, here's the original card (front and inside):

Now, here are the details on how easy it is to make! I apologize for the quality of the video. My computer wasn't cooperating and neither was the editing tool on YouTube. To see the measurements pop up on the video, select CC (close captioning). I've also listed them below in case YouTube doesn't cooperate for you, either.

Card base: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"
2 card panels: 4" x 5-1/4"
Technique piece: 3" x 5-1/4"; score at 3/4", 1-1/2" and 2-1/4"
Gray panels: sample 2 pieces at 2-1/2" x 4" - but have fun with this - any shape that fits will work :)

Thanks for joining me on my little escape today!

Stampin' Up! Petite Petals birthday card

2.26.2016

I apologize now for the Beatles song that is about to get stuck in your head. Actually, it's a fun song to sing, so  - no apologies! Sing along and have fun stamping this fun and easy card while you are at it! This card is a great STASH BUSTER for those scraps of colorful card stock you have laying around. Let's check it out:

Tie it together: use the same color card stock for flowers and card layering!

We just need the stamp inside that says, "It's my birthday, too - yeah"!

To create this card, simply stamp your sentiment (this one is from Suite Sayings) on your card front. Then stamp your flowers (Petite Petals) onto three coordinating pieces of card stock. Punch out with a coordinating punch (Petite Petals punch) and then adhere to your card front. (Looking for color combinations? Check out my Colors Pinterest board.)

For just a little bit of dazzle, I colored the center of the flowers with a Gold Wink of Stella brush marker. You can just see the shimmer in this photo, but in real life it shows really well without being overpowering. One thing I think you will really like, too, is that it dries quickly. As much as I like Stickles, I am really bad about somehow managing to smear it before it dries. Not an issue with Wink of Stella!

Stampin' Up! Flowering Flourishes thank you card

2.24.2016

An oldie-but-goody technique I really enjoy is using one stamp to create a background. Recently, I used one of the images in our Flowering Flourishes stamp set to create a soft background for a thank you card. First, a close up:

To create this look, I cut a long strip of copy paper and placed it across my card front to create a mask. This leaves an area free from stamped images. Using Pear Pizzazz ink, I stamped the flourish in a slanted direction repeatedly until the layer was mostly filled in. For a little extra filler without too much busy-ness, I stamped a speckled image from Gorgeous Grunge in lightly inked Smoky Slate. A bit of light sponging added a hint of color and helps the masked strip across the card stand out a little. (Click the image to see it larger.)

To finish the card, I stamped an extra flourish onto a piece of scrap paper and then fussy cut it. (Tip: turn the paper instead of your scissors for a smoother cut and less strain on your hands.) At this point, I was afraid of messing up the project (!), so I stamped the sentiment onto another piece of scrap paper, then punched it out and layered it onto the card using dimensional adhesive. Some Pearl Basic Jewels and layering and we're done!

Stampin' Up! Balloon Celebration Bundle

2.19.2016

Hello again!
Have you read the buzz lately about the drive to send birthday cards to people instead of just sending them an electronic message? In case you missed it, Shannon West (a really nice, talented and fun Stampin' Up! employee) started the movement and even gave it a hashtag: #imbringingbirthdaysback.  It's been such a success that she is sending out hundreds of cards! (If you decide to look up the hashtag on social media give yourself some time; it has taken off. Hooray!)

While I don't aim to send out hundreds of cards this year, making sure my loved ones and customers receive a greeting is definitely a goal. If it is for you, too, then you'll want to check out this colorful birthday greeting created by Ginny Gossett - a Demonstrator in Villa Rica, Georgia. The colors are crisp and happy and these balloons won't float away or go flat!

Ginny used our new Birthday Celebration stamp set along with it's coordinating punch (Balloon Bouquet Punch). They are available individually (as shown below in the product list) or you can save 15% when you buy them as a bundle. There are several balloon designs in the stamp set, but don't forget that you could also use the punch with the hoards of paper you already have on-hand. My apologies to those of you who haven't amassed a stash of paper... you are rare :)

Well, I hope you enjoyed the design and it inspires you to help bring birthdays back. Send something this cute and you'll make someone smile for sure :)
