Adventure Awaits with the emboss resist technique

Have you ever looked through a catalog and gotten distracted? Yeah - it happens to me, too. For example, when a new catalog comes out I usually try to make it all the way through and only look at the new images. I don't think I've accomplished that yet; it seems I get distracted by projects or patterns every time! Well, one day I finally made it to page 41 of our 2015 Occasions catalog and came across a trendy sentiment set called Adventure Awaits. These large sentiments are not only in style, they are inspiring for graduation, travel and even the occasional reminder of what is important.

Notes and a tip:

  • The card base and technique layer were created using Naturals Ivory card stock. This matte paper has a nice feel and includes some speckles in the color - a nice change from our smooth Very Vanilla.
  • The technique I used is one called "emboss resist". For this look, stamp your image(s) in Versamark, then heat set using clear embossing powder. Once set, smear on color using Stamping Sponges as I did or try ink pads, a brayer, markers, spritzers or daubers in your chosen colors. *Tip: start with just a little bit of color then add more to create a more vibrant look or draw emphasis to portions of the image.
  • If you would like to skip the embossing but like the resist look, try our Irresistibly Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper available through Sale-a-bration. You'll receive 12 sheets of 12" x 12" white paper with a variety of glossy white designs. You'll love this paper whether you add color or leave it as-is!
  • Demonstrators: for ideas using the DSP or this technique, be sure to visit the Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew challenge gallery for February. We were challenged to use this paper/technique and share ideas you can use in your events!

Thanks for viewing today's post! If you like this technique, be sure to check back later this week for a second project using different images and colors.
