My Digital Studio - some year end changes to be aware of

5.27.2014

If you use My Digital Studio, there are some year-end changes you need to be aware of including a change to our print vendor. Here's the news, straight from Stampin' Up!:

In June, we are switching to a new print vendor. We are excited about this new relationship and their high quality product offering! Because of this transition, we need to make a few changes to our product mix-including discontinuing some items, changing prices and options on a few carryover items, and introducing several items. These changes will also require us to temporarily shut off ordering starting on May 31. (We anticipate that ordering will be down for two weeks.)

Discontinuing Items

On May 30, the following items will be discontinued. If you are working on any of these project types or want to order additional copies of previously completed projects, you have 8 days to place your orders before they are gone at 11:59 PM (MT) on May 30.

 Item Size Reasoning
Linen Photobooks11" x 8-1/2"Our new printer doesn't currently offer linen photobooks, and we've had low order quantities in the past.
 Leather Photobooks5" x 5"
8" x 8"
11" x 8-1/2"
8-1/2" x 11"
12" x 12"
We've had low order quantities and would have incurred significant price increases to keep these.
Hard Cover Photobooks5" x 5"We would have incurred significant price increases to keep these. We will continue to offer a 5" x 5" Soft Cover Photobook at a competitive price.
Board Books*8" x 8"Our new printer doesn't currently offer these, and we've had low order quantities in the past.
Hard Cover Journals*6-1/4" x 8-1/4"We would have incurred significant price increases to keep these. Instead, we decided to move to a Soft Cover Journal with two binding options.
 Tags*3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
2-1/2" x 4-1/4"
We would have incurred significant price increases to keep these. We suggest using new Project Life cards (see below) for tags.
*As you know, we have a variety of digital downloads with these specific project type templates. We are working on a fix in the software so that your previous projects will convert to a new project offering. For example, a  6-1/4" x 8-1/4" Hard Cover Journal project would convert to the new Soft Cover Journal. We're working on fixes for the other discontinued project types.

Changes to Carryover Print Products
We worked with our new vendor where possible in order to keep costs low. Unfortunately, we need to make some small price and option changes to several of our carryover items. Watch for more information with all the new prices soon.

 Item Size Reasoning
All Hard Cover PhotobooksBlack and white endsheet options onlyOur new printer does not offer the same variety of endsheet options. We examined ordering trends and found that the majority of the books ordered had black or white endsheets, so we've decided to continue forward with those two options.
White fly sheet, same as our Soft Cover PhotobooksThe vellum fly sheet would have caused an additional increase in the cost per book.
All Photobooks and Additional PagesPrice increasesThere are increased manufacturing costs.
Individual PagesPrice increasesThere are increased manufacturing costs.
Minimum order quantity  of 10The majority of orders exceeded our previous minimum of five. Our prices would have increased even further if we kept the minimum at five, so we felt this was a good compromise.
CalendarsPrice increasesThere are increased manufacturing costs.
CardsPrinted on heavier weight cardstock Our new printer offers higher quality cardstock at a comparable price.

New Print Products
We are excited to introduce the following items soon:
 Item Size
Perfect Bound Soft Cover Journals5-1/2" x 8-1/2", 80 double-sided lined pages
Spiral Bound Soft Cover Journals5-1/2" x 8-1/2", 80 double-sided lined pages
Project Life Cards**3" x 4" and 4" x 3"
4" x 4"
4" x 6" and 6" x 4"

**Optional rounded corners for additional cost

Print Ordering Downtime
Watch for more information, prices, and pictures for these new items in the coming days and weeks. As you can imagine, this shift will require some work on the back end before we roll out the new products. We need to make changes in the software and get everything set up with our new printer which will require us to turn off print ordering. We anticipate that the changes will take us about two weeks, starting on May 31. Again, if you are working on any discontinuing project types or will need an order during the downtime, please place your orders before 11:59 PM (MT) on May 30.

Stampin' Up! Product unexpected use #525

5.25.2014

Ok, the post title is sort of a joke... There are millions of ideas of how to use Stampin' Up! products that have nothing to do with paper crafting!

Today, I discovered that the heavy white board that comes with our Designer Series Paper makes a great cover to protect walls from overspray. My hubby and I are renovating our backyard and part of this great plan includes staining our concrete lanai. The wider walls were easy enough to protect with garbage bags but there were some areas that needed something else.

Stampin' Up! to the rescue:

Brilliant! :)

Stampin' Up! Blackberry Bliss Work of Art

5.18.2014

One of the new 2014-2015 In Colors is a deep, rich purple called Blackberry Bliss. At first look, you might find this color similar to our Elegant Eggplant but they are really quite different. Hello Honey is another one of the new colors; at first glance you may think So Saffron… but nope. These two colors are new and fresh and once you use them I think you'll be impressed.

Here's a project I created using these two colors. The tag includes stamped images from Work of Art. To create the background, I inked up the stamp and then inked off before repeat stamping on the tag. Even with stamping off first (stamping onto a scrap of paper), the stamped images on the tag look rich and vibrant. You can see the true rich color of Hello Honey in the stamped and punched out hearts. Blackberry Bliss was used to stamp the sentiment and the coordinating card stock forms our card base as well as one little heart.

For a better example of Blackberry Bliss, I took our sentiment and stamped it off onto a scrap of paper. Look at the gorgeous range of colors you will get with just this one ink pad. (Note that the card base and the first 'you' look a bit darker in this photo than they are in real life. The color is reflected more accurately in the photo above. I couldn't get the photo to take exactly right, but I thought this might give you an idea of what to expect.)

 Stamps: Work of Art
Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Basic Black, Whisper White
Midnight DSP Stack
Scalloped Tag Topper punch, Itty Bitty Accents punch set, Project Life Corner punch
Chalk Talk Framelits, Big Shot
Jewel Basic Rhinestones, White Baker's Twine

US257 Retro Fresh anytime greeting card

5.17.2014

I've got a neat little sketch to share with you today. This one really made me stop and think. I would love to see your take on it. If you decide to play along, link to your project on the Unscripted Sketches website so we can check it out! This is also where you will get to see the projects submitted by other Design Team members and other readers (like you!) who play along.

The diagonal parts of the design really stood out to me, so I thought I would take it a step further and use some additional diagonals on the project. Check out these fun prints from our Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper:

Note on supplies:

  • The sentiment is from our A Dozen Thoughts stamp set.
  • The DSP shown above is set to retire (meaning it will not be featured in our upcoming catalog). It is only available while supplies last.
  • The flower punch used here, Petite Petals, is currently available through our Occasions Catalog and will be offered in the 2014-15 Catalog as well.
  • Yes, I do use these pearls a lot :0)

Stampin' Up! Introducing Hello Honey

5.16.2014

May is a busy month for birthdays in my family. The post office must love us this time of year ;)

This card, for my nephew who shares a birthday with my brother (his dad), uses two new In-Colors and some new patterned paper. (info posted below) I wanted to add more embellishments, but he's in his 20s now, so I've gotta keep it clean and simple...

I really like the pairing of this sentiment "seize the cake" along with the slice of cake from Sketched Birthday. They are both in the same artistic style and have so much detail in them that it's really not necessary to do much except stamp! Besides, in my family you'd better seize the cake quickly or you just might not get any!

New supplies used here:
Something to Say (sentiment stamp set)
2014-2016 In-Colors: Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon
Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack
Arrows embossing folder (carryover from Occasions Catalog)

Stampin' Up! Wetlands on Vellum

5.14.2014

I took a little break at the beach yesterday. (*wistful sigh*… it was wonderful.) Watching the little birds along the shore reminded me of our Wetlands stamp set. Here's a quick card created using a layer of vellum over a subtle Designer Series Paper print.

Tip: Adhesive for the vellum layer is hidden under the strip of Natural Ribbon.

Here's a look at the inside. Imagine the view from the dunes, looking down towards the water :)

Oh, Hello reshare

5.12.2014

Today, Canadian Demonstrator Josee Smuck is sharing several projects using Oh, Hello as the main stamp set. She graciously included one of my previous clean and simple projects (shown below) in the line-up. You can see more ideas by visiting her post here.
