Sweater Weather Get Well

10.29.2013

'Tis the season… for Sweater Weather (the paper and the clothing) as well as for sniffles, coughs and sneezes. Here are two cards for you today using this lovely DSP that, hopefully, will encourage someone to feel better. Maybe it would help if you send chicken soup, too!

I think this second one needs something nice and soft along the spine; maybe some Organza ribbon? Hmmm…..

Tip: The Pearls are placed where there are dots on this patterned paper and are varied in size. The first row has the medium sized pearls, the next row has small pearls, then they alternate. This touch of elegance requires something a little "more" on the card… that's why I'm thinking of the Organza on the side. What do you think?

Stamps: Express Yourself, (scooter image retired), Backyard Basics (bird)
Colors: Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Cajun Craze, Soft Sky, Smoky Slate
as found in Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper
Tools: Corner Rounder punch, Paper Snips, Card two: Scallop Border punch, Decorative Label punch, Medium Oval punch
Extras: Jewels Basic Pearls

Serene Silhouettes RS87

Did you know there is a size of card called "Gladstone"? It measures 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" (folded). I didn't know this, but it is one of the 66 sizes of cards for which you can make envelopes using the Envelope Punch Board. Here's a sample created using this week's Retro Sketch. Enjoy!

Layout: RS87
Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Blessings from Heaven
Colors: Soft Suede, Crisp Cantaloupe, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White

Stampin' Up! Around the World

10.26.2013

Here's a fun little sketch from Unscripted Sketches for you! For ideas on how to use it, be sure to check out the forum and check out what the Design Team and others have submitted.

My card uses a fun travel-related stamp set called Around the World. There are so many cute images in this set, but my card focuses mostly on just one of them - the camera!

I think I'll use this one to send some long overdue pictures of the kids to my mom. I owe her some pictures from our summer vacation. :)

Stamps: Around the World
Colors: Whisper White, Sahara Sand, Pear Pizzazz, Early Espresso
Tools: 1-1/4" and 1-3/8" circle punches, Paper Snips
Extras: Epic Day Washi Tape, Jewels Basic Rhinestone

Washi Tape Quick Card

10.23.2013

This card, based on a card in a Paper Crafts magazine came together VERY quickly. It is simply hand ripped strips of washi tape. For an added bit of color, I tied a quick bow using a left over piece of Baker's Twine found in the October My Paper Pumpkin Kit. If you have white twine, you can get this color by dyeing the twine with Cameo Coral re-inker or by coloring it with a Stampin' Write Marker.

A note about this card in case you decide to try it. On my first attempt at making this card, the strips of washi started a little too high. It looks okay, but it definitely looks better to leave less of the card front showing on the bottom and a larger swatch up top so you can add a quick greeting and the twine (if desired). Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps: Express Yourself (Hostess set)
Extras: Washi Tape (Epic Day, Season of Style and store-bought), Baker's Twine (leftover from MPP kit)

Want your cards to come together even faster? Check this out: Stampin' Up! is offering card bases, cut from our fantastic card stock and ready to go! Currently available in the colors shown below to coordinate with the Paper Stacks in our 2013 Holiday catalog.

US227 Morning Meadow Trust God

10.19.2013

This weekend's challenge at Unscripted Sketches has a nice basic layout. Imagine it layered with some of your favorite patterned papers or perhaps featuring a favorite ribbon as the main focal point. What will you do with it?

I've recently begun following a blog written by Heather Telford. Heather shares beautiful no-layer and minimally layered greeting cards. Sometimes she will share cards where she has heat embossed an image and then stamped the same image again in coordinating colors. The background is usually sponged and/or brayered in to complete the 'scene'. I copied this technique for the floral panel you see here. It was easy and I just love the overall softness of the scene. I hope you like it, too. :)

Stamps: Morning Meadow (Hostess Set), Trust God
Colors: Whisper White, Smoky Slate, Marina Mist, Midnight Muse
Tools: Big Shot, Framelits - Chalk Talk, Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Brayer, Stampin' Sponges
Extras: White Embossing Powder, 1/8" Silver Taffeta ribbon, Designer Vintage Faceted Buttons, Jewels Basic Rhinestones

A Christmas-y Everything Eleanor Easel Card

10.18.2013

Challenge #7 on the Stampin' Addicts Pinterest board is to create an easel card. It's a fun layout which leaves the front of the card as a show piece. Although nice for any occasion, I think it's especially fitting for the cards we leave out on display like Birthdays, special anniversaries and especially Christmas!

This card actually uses non-traditional images (from Everything Eleanor) along with a carry-over holiday greeting set called Greetings of the Season. I love the large label stamp and how it coordinates with one of the framelits in our Apothecary Accents set. The shape is exactly the same but the die cut is smaller (you can see it popped up on top of the stamp here.) And those swirls could mimic branches to hold ornaments just as nicely as they hold this cute little bird. I should color his cheeks black so that he resembles a cardinal!

Stamps: Everything Eleanor, Greetings of the Season
Colors: Cherry Cobbler, Soft Sky, Whisper White, Midnight Muse
Tools: Big Shot, Apothecary Accents, Paper Snips
Extras: Mini Silver Brads

Mosaic Dozen Thoughts

10.17.2013

Check out this sketch from Retro Sketches.

This one immediately got the wheels turning. What would the stripes be? Strips of card stock? Designer Series Paper? Washi Tape? So many choices… but with carpool looming I grabbed some ink, our Mosaic Madness stamp set and a sentiment (A Dozen Thoughts) and got to stamping!

With more time on your hands, you may wish to have a Stamp-a-ma-jig handy so that you can get those line stamps exactly how you want them. I got lucky here; not exactly evenly spaced… but I think it'll work.

Stamps: Mosaic Madness, A Dozen Thoughts
Colors: Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate, Whisper White
Tools: Mosaic punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig (optional)
Extras: Jewels Basic Rhinestone

Hello Lovely Blessings from Heaven

10.15.2013

Here's a quick and easy card for you today. I definitely recommend using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement of your images. Even with clear-mount, my first attempt at this card (without the tool) was wonky, to say the least.

Stamps: Blessings from Heaven, Hello Lovely
Colors: Very Vanilla, Garden Green, Early Espresso
Tools: Stampamajig
Extras: Jewels Basic Rhinestones

Hello Epic Day

10.14.2013

It's been months since our Epic Day line of products were released, but I still enjoy using them so much. Something about the patterns, smudges and combinations of color make it so fun to create projects using them. For this card, I started with a Mojo sketch and only added some simple embellishments to finish it off. (Link and info listed below.)

Layout: Mojo 314
Stamps: Hello, Lovely
Epic Day Designer Series Paper
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Tea Stain Stampin' Spot (retired)
Tools: Big Shot, Framelits - Circles Collection
Extras: Epic Day Washi Tape, Linen Thread, Designer Naturals Buttons, Silver Brad (retired), Candy Dots - Neutrals

Stampin' Up! Truly Grateful available as a digital download

10.13.2013

Did you know that most of the stamp sets in our Holiday Catalog are available as digital files? Well, they are - and at a fraction of the "real stamp" price, too. I recently purchased Truly Grateful, a fall-inspired set containing 6 separate images, including 2 shown here (wheat bundle, sentiment).

Digital images can be easily altered using My Digital Studio. I created this card for a swap, so it was nice to reduce the bundle image to the size I wanted, color it on-screen and then just print multiple for die cutting. Same thing with the sentiment. And what I really like? This is a stamp set that I will only use occasionally, so it was nice to only spend $3.95 on it :)

Stamps: Truly Grateful (MDS Version item #134928)
Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper
Card Stock: Crushed Curry, Very Vanilla
Tools: Modern Label punch, Big Shot, Framelits- Circles
Extras: Designer Naturals Buttons, Linen Thread

Stampin' Up! Giggle Greetings

10.12.2013

I'm thankful for each birthday I am allowed to have, but this image and sentiment still make me grin…

When you stamp this image (one of four in Giggle Greetings), the stamped image includes a little swirly ball  in front of the cat. I saw a swap at convention that included a little wadded up ball of Linen Thread glued over the image so that it would resemble a fur ball. Easy to do, a little gross, but since the person I'm sending this to is totally a cat person I think it'll she'll get a kick out of it ;)

Stamps: Giggle Greetings
Quatrefancy Specialty Designer Series Paper
Colors: Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Whisper White
Tools: Big Shot, Framelits - Ovals Collection
Extras: Jewels Basic Rhinestone, Baker's Twine (White), Linen Thread

Stampin' Up! Remembering Christmas

10.11.2013

Last Friday in class we worked with a fun-fold card that utilizes the Envelope Punch Board to create a pretty, tuck-able (is that a word?) closure. My ladies report that it was a success :)

And here it is open. The enclosure contains a pocket, perfect for a gift card!

Stampin' Up! Postage Collection

10.06.2013

I created this card a couple of weeks ago. I remember trying to figure out which sentiment to use and decided, somewhat on a whim, to use "Memories". I thought it would go nicely with the vintage car (from Postage Collection) and the overall feel of the card. The card has taken on a deeper meaning this week. My father has been diagnosed with Dementia and I am reminded (among other things) just how precious memories can be.

Layout: The Sweet Stop
Stamps: Postage Collection (Hostess Only), Loving Thoughts
Colors: Basic Black, Old Olive, Whisper White
Tools: Curly Label Punch, Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots TIEF
Extras: Jewels Basic Rhinestones, Silver Taffeta 1/8" ribbon
