Use It Tuesday - Jewel Brads

One of the embellishments listed in our Retirement List this year are our brads containing rhinestones. A customer once mentioned to me that she didn't really like using this style of brad because of the bulk. Not only does it require additional care in mailing, but she just didn't care for the way they can stick up out of projects.

Do you feel this way, too? Well, if you do and would like another way to use these beauties, did you know that you can easily remove the jewel from the brad?

Simply open up the prongs on the brad and take a look at the back.

You should see one or two small tabs holding the jewel in place. Carefully use the tip of a Paper-Piercing Tool or scissors to open up the prongs. Do this slowly, you don't want to damage the fine point of your tool.

Once the prongs are opened up, you can tip the brad over and the jewel will fall out.

To use the freed jewel on your project, I suggest using a dot of Tombow adhesive. You really only need a tiny dot; this adhesive works well. Just in case you overdo it, you'll be happy to know it dries clear, too.

Here's a closer look at two flowers; one has a full Ice Circle Rhinestone Brad in the center, the other has a dot of glue waiting for just the stone.

And here is the finished card, complete with 3 jewels topping flowers die cut using our Floral Fusion sizzlit die.

Thanks for stopping by!
