DivaSC89 Two for you!

6.26.2010

I can't believe it, but it's Saturday AGAIN! Maybe it's just me, but time sure seems to fly when the kids are home from summer. Must be something about that extra hour of sleep I get ;)

I had fun with our sketch this week. So much fun that I have 2 cards for you - hope you enjoy them!

With this first one, I was going for a "typography" type background. I keep seeing this style on paper and on random merchandise so I thought it would be fun to try to create my own using my alphabet stamps. Sticking with neutral colors gave it a neat look and made it easy to age the paper a little with some sponging along the edges. I think this one will even work as a "guy" card.

And, here's my second card with this sketch. The triangular portion made for a fun "flap" to enclose the card. In order to anchor it when the card is closed, I made the center block larger and only adhered it along the right side of the card front. Here's what it looks like (closed):

And here it is opened up:

Cute, huh? I couldn't resist adding the little bee inside - what's a hive without the bees? lol
So that's it for me. I hope you'll try the sketch and share your project with us. Just drop a comment and include a link to your card - I'd love to see it! Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies for both card projects:
Stamps: Dreams du Jour, Rough Type Alphabet, Contempo Alphabet, Just Buzzin' By, Picture This (occasions mini hostess set)
Ink: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake (Kraft), Basic Black, Stazon Black, various markers for coloring
Paper: Naturals Vanilla, Soft Suede, Basic Black, Whisper White, Green Galore, Shades of Spring Designer Series Paper (Occasions Mini)
Tools/Other: Stampin' Sponges, Vintage Brads, Paper Snips, White Satin Ribbon, Small Oval Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

Monogram So Sweet

6.22.2010

Monogram Sweet is, hands down, the best set for making Monogram cards. Combine it basic card making tools and embellishments and you've got all the ingredients you need for some striking personalized cards.

I made these cards in less than an hour. I probably could have made more (or finished these faster) if I hadn't been dancing along with my favorite music! Not a bad way to spend an hour, what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: Monogram Sweet
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Paper: Blush Blossom, Ruby Red and Naturals Vanilla card stock, random patterned paper
Tools/Other: 1 1/4", 1 3/8", 1 3/4" circle punches, rhinestone and pearl stickers

Monday Morning Faith

6.21.2010

I recently read a book entitled, "Monday Morning Faith". In short, it's a fictional story about a woman who learns about living God's plan for her. It was a good read and while reading it, I found the need to write down a few things to consider for my own life. Thus was born the idea to make a little faith journal to record these thoughts and ideas.
The base of the book is our little 5x5 Chipboard Album. The pages are unlined, making it perfect for making notes or even drawing if that's what you prefer. The letters and swirls on the cover are also chipboard elements; Craft Stampin' Spots made it easy to apply ink directly to them as well as the edges of the book. Once dried, I used Crystal Effects to glue them to the book. (It adhered so well, I don't think the letters will ever come off!) And of course, some ribbon scraps decorate the binding - just for fun ;)

Now the book is so cute that I think it will become a gift for someone! Guess I'll just have to stick to my post-it notes for now!

Supplies:
Stamps: None, can you believe it?!
Ink:  Earth Elements Craft Stampin' Spots (*ret)
Paper:
Tools/Other: Various Ribbons, 5x5 On Board Chipboard Album, Crystal Effects, letters and swirls are remnants from various chipboard sets

Diva Sketch 88

6.19.2010

It's Saturday again and time for a sketch challenge with the Utah Divas. If you'd like to check out the group's blog, click here. Otherwise, read on and I'll share the link for the next stop on today's hop.

I really like the little frog on this image, don't you? He looks like he's enjoying the view of my bright flowers. I don't know that I've ever seen flowers this color in real life... but hey, they work with the paper! *grin*
The card is easy to figure out, so I'll just point out a little detail: I used my Desktop Paper Trimmer to cut 3 thin strips of Tempting Turquoise card stock. (This cutter makes it so easy, no shredding or fuzzy edges!) Other options might be to use a wider strip of paper, a series of die cuts or perhaps some ribbon.
Well, that's it for me. Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: A Flower for All Seasons, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Old Olive, StazOn Black, Assorted Stampin' Write Markers for coloring in the image
Paper: Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Very Vanilla, Island Oasis Designer Series Paper

Antique Wallpaper

6.18.2010

I recently signed up to receive the Technique Junkies newsletter.  As soon as I started bumping through the information on-line, I immediately found several techniques I just HAD to try.  This first one is called Antique Wallpaper; not only was it easy, I'm thrilled with the results:

See the background paper? I used our Finial Press embossing folder and ran my Bermuda Bay textured card stock through the Big Shot. That gave me the design on the paper that I was then able to "age" according to the tutorial, leaving me with this nicely antiqued layer. Even though I'm not thrilled with my watercoloring skills, I do love the way this card finished out. I can't wait to try it again with different folders and colors! This will definitely show up in one of my card making classes very soon!

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: Song of Spring, Thoughts & Prayers
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Crumb Cake, Brown Stazon
Paper: Bermuda Bay, Early Espresso, Watercolor Paper, scrap of Crumb Cake
Tools/Other:Big Shot, Lots of Tags Sizzlits, Finial Press Embossing Folder, Watercolor Crayons (Rich Regals), Aqua Painter, Linen Thread, Stampin' Sponges, Antique Brad (non-SU!)

Simple Circle Circus

6.17.2010

Now say that three times, fast! *grin*

My goal really was to make a card that wouldn't take a lot of time or supplies. If this is too simple for you, consider adding more texture to the background layers or use a technique to add some visual interest. Some bling wouldn't hurt, either ;) And, don't forget - you can make it even more special by adding a little somethin'-somethin' to the inside and envelope. Either way, it's handmade and that certainly means a big somethin'!
Thank you for stopping by!

Supplies:
Stamps: Circle Circus, Friend to Friend (retired)
Ink: Real Red
Paper: Sahara Sand, Whisper White, Real Red Textured
Tools/Other: Big Shot, Little Leaves Sizzlit, Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8" Circle Punch

Are you Awash with Flowers?

6.16.2010

I recently received my preview order from our upcoming catalog. One of my absolute favorite items in the box was our new Color Coach (shown here, left). The front of the card is a full sized color swatch and the back contains at least 2 recommended color combinations. I was also very impressed with a few of the cards which teach some of the basics of color theory.

For my card today, I chose the color combo shared on the Real Red card. It recommends using Bashful Blue and Crumb Cake (formerly called "Kraft") with this Red. I used them to make a quick card and practice my two-step stampin'. (Looks like I need to keep practicing....lol)
Thank you for stopping by! I'd love to hear what you think about the color combo or my very simple card. :)

Supplies:
Stamps: Awash With Flowers, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Crumb Cake (formerly known as Kraft) pad & marker, Bashful blue, Real Red
Paper: Real Red, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Tools/Other: Paper Snips for fine detail cutting, Blocks C & H for clear mount stamps

Ahhh! Rain!

6.15.2010

Summer is in full swing here in Central Floria and, lucky for us, we're getting some cloud cover and rain this afternoon. I'm very grateful, because let me tell you - it felt like an oven outside yesterday!

I'm catching up on board games with my boys and then will be able to let them have some video game time this afternoon so that I can escape2 my craft room. I hope to complete some projects to share with you this week. I've recently subscribed to Technique Junkies and boy do I have some fun new stuff to try out - I can't wait!

In the meantime, I also wanted to remind you that many of our retiring accessories (including paper, inks, embellishments, etc.) are only available while supplies last. In fact, stock of many of the retiring reinkers and markers has been depeleted so they are no longer available at all! In case you have some items you'd like to stock-up on, HERE is the list (taken from the most recent update). You can click on the Stampin' Up! logo above to be directed to my official company site and do your shopping there; or if you prefer, just contact me and I'll be happy to help you out. My sons want me to play Monopoly next - trust me.... I will welcome your call! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Stampin' Addicts Mega Hop

6.11.2010

Friday through Sunday a bunch of us from Stampin' Addicts are taking part in a Mega Hop showcasing projects using retiring stamp sets. We've each chosen a favorite to share with you. After all, just because they won't be in the catalog next time, that doesn't mean we can't still love them and use them!

Welcome to those of you who landed here from Betty's Blog. (She used one of my favorite sets, A Kind Word.) If you'd like to visit the Stampin' Addicts site and the thread about the hop, click here. Otherwise, read on, and I'll share with you the next link and you can keep hoppin'!

I chose to share a few projects from my favorite, Owl Together Now. This first card will go to a friend that I haven't seen in a while. I thought "guess who" just might be the right thing to say since it's been so long!

Only Orange card stock is toned down with Chocolate Chip card stock and Pawsitively Prints Designer Series Paper. (This paper is from our Build-a-bear Workshop line.) Coordinating grosgrain and Sending Love epoxy brads add a little fun to the card.
And now, to share one of my son's favorite "friends".

His official name is "Hooty Hoot Hoot", but we call him Hooty. lol
I kept it simple on this 6x6, because the owl is what it's all about!

And now my last project, another card!

I made a faux wood background by dragging Whisper White craft ink and several neutrals across the card stock. Once dried, I drew in the lines to give it the look of planks. My little owl is sorta hiding in the tree limbs (Little Leaves sizzlit), so I thought the sentiment "Guess who loves you" would be perfect.

Well, that's it for me. Thanks for stopping by and now we're on to the next stop, Sara's Blog  Lily's Ink Pad. Enjoy!

Summer Mini Swaps

6.08.2010

For the next couple of days, I'll be sharing a variety of cards (and 1 page)  showcasing stamps from the Summer Mini Catalog. Trina C. at Stampin' Addicts hosted a swap for projects using these items. One important detail was that the project had to be something we could use in a workshop.

This appealed to me so much because, while I love making detailed cards, I often enjoy sitting down making cards that DON'T take all day or break the bank! I hope you enjoy these samples as much as I did. And if you would like to hop over and check out the Stampin' Addicts site, click here. I believe you'll be impressed by the nice people there and the great info shared. Enjoy!

This card showcases two new builder wheels Posy Party and Thoughtful Friend.
It was created and shared by Tandra Boyer.

Great for a wedding or shower, this card share images from Blissful Bride.

DivaSC86 Oasis

6.05.2010

Time for a Utah Divas Sketch Challenge. Today is number 86 (wow!) If you are starting here, don't miss the link to the next blog at the end of this post. Elizabeth will then direct you to the next stop on the hop.
For my card, I turned the sketch sideways and manipulated the shapes a bit. With the exception of the sentiment, there wasn't any stamping done for this card - it's all about the Island Oasis Designer Series Paper.

Now, I'm ready for Hawaii - I wish! Here are some notes about this card:
  • The leaves and flowers take place of the circles on the sketch. They are from the Island Oasis paper mentioned above. The flowers are from the flip side of the leaf pattern page used for the base.
  • All of the papers and pieces are sponged with Soft Suede ink and were crumpled to rough them up a bit. Flat just looked a little too "contained" for this card.
  • Our Paper Piercing Tool and Mat Pack made it easy to create a line of holes along the center strip. I then used a needle to guide the Linen Thread through the holes.
  • "Miss You" is handwritten over the stamped sentiment.
As always, I sincerely Thank you for stopping by! Now let's jump to the other side of Florida and check out what Elizabeth has for us. If you would like to see the entire list of participating Divas (with links) click here
