I love this owl! And when I saw this sentiment (from the Level 1 Hostess Set - Picture This), I knew I had to use them together. One thing I wanted to point out: on the white piece of cardstock with the "Thanks for Owl you do", there is a line of the same phrase stamped in So Saffron between each line of Old Olive. It's there but just not showing well in this picture. Guess I'll keep working on my photography skills...

I love Sale-a-bration. (Picture me, doing a happy dance....) As soon as I saw the free stamps in the brochure, this little bird cage caught my eye. And this week, I finally got my stamp set so that I could play. Yay!
This sheet of Designer Series paper (from Flock Together) really challenged me to use a different combination of colors. I don't know that I would have put these colors together if it were not for this print. But, I really do like the finished result. And, it gave me a chance to learn a little trick I learned at convention. Let me show you how I colored the bird....
First, tap your image onto the main color ink (Soft Suede used here).
Then, use a blender pen to remove ink from the bird. Just rub your blender pen over that area (like it you were coloring it) and the blender pen will pick up the ink on the stamp. Rub your blender pen onto scrap paper to remove the ink.
Last, color in the bird with your color of choice. (Tempting Turquoise used here.)
Huff on your stamp and then STAMP onto your project. Et Voila! Your bird is now a different color than the cage.
Good trick, huh? Thought you'd like it....:)

The boys (including the hubby!) are busy playing a new video game, so I escaped to play with paper! I hadn't really expected to be able to craft tonight, but a quick search came up with a great sketch by Gretchen Barron. Click her link if you'd like to see the sketch and play along.
Normally, I wouldn't leave so much white on a card. But this patterned paper (from our Cottage Wall Designer Series paper) is so pretty that I didn't want to cover it all. If you don't like to see this much white on a card, other options might be to mat the background piece with Old Olive like I did the smaller pieces. You could also replace the center piece (the one embossed with swiss dots) with a piece of Orchid Opulence.
But mine has to stay the way it is - it's time to go get some pizza before the guys finish it off! Thanks for stopping by!

I've been having some problems logging onto my blog so I haven't been able to post anything for the last few days. My hubby has worked on the computer over the last couple of days and it seems to be working now, so let's get back to work! (Play? Yeah - definitely play!)
I received an e-mail from Missy S. who asked me about un-mounted stamps. One option she mentioned is to peel the image sticker off the top of the woodblock and attach that to the back of the stamp. The glue would then be brushed onto the sticker (instead of the foam as previously shown). This way, when you use your clear block with your rubber stamp, you'll be able to see the (sticker) image through the block.
Missy's concern is whether the glue will eventually pull away from the sticker (it is plastic, after all). Truth is, I don't know - I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try it myself, but in the mean-time I've asked a few other demonstrators who have used this technique to share their results with me. I'll be back to share them with you as soon as I get some answers!

Well, I'm happy to report - it works! The dried glue on the back of the stamp was sticky enough to stick to the block, I got a clear image and it peeled back off for storage. Hooray!

Years ago Stampin' Up! had a stamp set (Farm Fever) that included an adorable sick pig in it. The little piggie was tucked into it's bed, quilt and all, with a thermometer in it's mouth and a caption that read "Are you cured yet?". I loved this stamp set, but made the mistake of not purchasing it before it retired. Wah! So, instead I had to set about creating a piggie out of punched shapes so I could still share the sentiment! (It is funny, isn't it?) To make my piggie, you'll need:
- 1 3/4" circle punch - face/head
- 3/4" circle punch - nose
- 1/4" circle punch - eyes (alternate: googly eyes)
- horizontal slot punch - nostrils* see notes below
- Heart to Heart punch - ears
All were punched from Cameo Coral card stock except the eyes which came from Very Vanilla.
The Cameo Coral pieces were rubbed with a Sponge Dauber that I had loaded with Ruby Red Stampin' Pastels. Color on the edges helps to define each piece and help define them a little. (Besides - have you ever seen a clean pig?!) You could also do this with a Stampin' Sponge and Classic Ink, but I find the chalk to be a little more forgiving - I can erase the chalk if I go a little overboard!
Here are some pics to go with a few of the steps:
To create the ears, layer the smallest heart over the medium heart.
The 3/4" circle is the nose/snout. Attach to the large circle with a Stampin' Dimensional. The Horizontal Slot punch was used to make the nostrils. The pieces were a little too long for my pig's snout, so I reinserted them into the punch and shortened them a little. Scissors would work well, too if you find this too complicated.
For the sentiment, I punched a thought/speech bubble and just wrote in my message with the fine tip on my Chocolate Chip marker. These stamps are perfect for these characters and for personalizing your projects!

Sorry for the late posting today. I've had a bunch of family things to take care of, but I did manage to find a little bit of time to "work" today.
I have fallen in love with our Clear Mount option of stamps. One thing I am particularly fond of is the small amount of storage space they take up. I had read previously that you could "un-mount" your stamps and then apply a glue so that you can use them with clear blocks.
Well, I tried it out today (with retired stamps.... just in case.....lol). Here's the process so far:

Well, I tried it out today (with retired stamps.... just in case.....lol). Here's the process so far:
I put this stamp in the microwave for 8 seconds - just long enough to heat it up so that I could carefully remove the rubber along with the foam. My microwave is a wimpy one, but 8 seconds was plenty. Don't heat more or I believe the block will get smokin' hot!
Using a foam brush, I spread a layer of Aleen's tack-it-over glue directly onto the foam.
Here's one stamp after about 2 hours of drying. Seriously sticky! I'm definitely leaving it over-night before I try it out! Check back for results!
One quick note: When reading on-line about others who have tried this I noticed that a few people had removed the rubber from the foam. Then they added the glue to the back of the rubber. They were able to use the stamp this way, but got better results by putting a rubber mat (or mouse pad) under their paper. I'm trying it with the foam still on the stamp so that I can omit this extra step.
Today's sketch at Utah Divas International leaves a nice big spot in the center of the card - perfect for candy! FYI - the Treat Cup fits the amount of Skittles in the little bags given out at Halloween. My son shared his last bag with me only long enough to make the card and get a picture of it :)

I was reading a book recently that recommended making a list of "SFGTD: Stuff for God To Do". It caught my attention because I know that there are a few things that I fret about or try to "fix" that I absolutely have no control over. (Someone out there knows what I'm talkin' about....lol). This situation inspired me to create a box where I can write down these "things" and let them go. I even sealed the box so that I can't pull them back out!
My SFGTD box is made with a milk carton pattern I purchased from Becky Roberts. (The pattern also includes a holder for 4 of the milk cartons - it's adorable!) If you are not comfortable working with patterns, our new Occassions Mini catalog contains a new Big Shot die that will cut and score a box for you. Easy, right?
I added an opening with my Word Window punch. This will allow me to insert my notes where I write down what I'm "letting go". To decorate, I added some Designer Series paper and some punch outs from our new punch, XL 2-step Bird punch. Definitely an easy project, but one with great purpose :)

This card is based on today's sketch challenge at Mojo Monday. I actually got a little creative and changed out a few elements; I think you're supposed to but I rarely think of anything to do different, lol. Instead of the layered circles, I just left one portion of a circle so that the eye is still drawn to the bird area. Also, I tied a bow (yay, me) instead of cutting the ribbon. And (yup, one more) I left out the scallop border. And look at me, no stamps! I think I need to check my temperature!

I actually got a little creative and changed out a few elements; I think you're supposed to but I rarely think of anything to do different, lol. Happy New Year! Working on your resolutions or abandoning the idea altogether? :)
I'm not into making resolutions simply because they make my inner-rebel come out! So instead, I'm going to share a couple of resources with you. When I think about what I want to accomplish on a weekly basis (sometimes even daily!), my thoughts are usually centered around three things: what I eat and taking care of my family and my business. These two websites help me stay on track and allow me to use my time wisely and enjoy my food! I hope you find them helpful, too.
Flylady: This is a great way to stay on top of your housework. She really teaches you how to break down your housekeeping so that you get things done and still allow time to play. Which for me also translates to guilt-free stampin' time! Woo-hoo!
Sparkpeople: I use this site to keep track of what I eat. As I've kept track of what I'm eating, I've realized that I wasn't eating the right balance of foods. I thought I was... but I wasn't. There is a lot more to this site (activity tracking, forums, etc.); I encourage you to check it out and see how you're really doing.
